brinks padlock

does any one want to help a greenhorn?
i have recentley aquired this bad boy ,,minus key tis locked tight
please help with breakdown of lock anyone please
i have piks 2 dimonds snake and 2 hooks made from jigsaw blades
and have been sucsessfull with master padlocks brass and laminated
also have schlage mortise cylinder that i have been doin 1 pin 2pin 3pin practice on still tryin 4 5 /6 pins not yet thoough
if any body with spare time could touch on tha listed topics would be appreicited

If your Brinks is the one thats similar to the Master 140 (brass) I have found it to be a little more difficult then the Master seemed the tolerances were alot tighter but it might also have to do with the setup of the pins.

I found it to be very similar in picking just took me more time to get the first time.

ah so that's the ticket. I recently bought a super cheap one just to toy with, was about $3 only, and haven't got it just yet. didn't put much time into it just yet, but so far it seems much more difficult than the masters and others I have no problem with.

haven't had the time to get mine just yet myself. I just noticed in your original post you mentioned your picks are all home made. if your just starting out also, perhaps a small beginner commercial made set would be of benefit for ya?

I have one of these locks that I got from Wallmart. It is a brass padlock that was rated as high security on the package. I found it fairly easy to pick using light tension and one of Raimundo's Half diamond picks. Got to where I could pick it on average in less than a minute so I got bored and drilled out the 6 pressed in plugs on the side of the lock. It has 5 pins 4 of which are spool pins. In order for me to pick it I would have to set the pins in this order 5,4,2,3,1 I would always over set the 3rd pin so after setting the 2nd one I'd have to release the tension a little and let the 3rd pin fall into place. Not too dificult a lock if you use the right amount of tension. Just keep praticing. I like to watch TV and work on my locks. My newest attempt is a Brinks Shrouded Padlock. Now that baby is a pain to open.

Ok well i think i can help you out with the Brinks... as i just bought a disc locks thats brinks so calld "HIGH SECURITY" the modle is the r70, if this is that same as yours the get a strong hook and good strong tension wrench... this one goes against the gentle tension laws. Since the cylinder is spring loaded, the judgement is extremely difficult, but i found the picking techniuge, First add hard pressure and ocourse a strong tension wrench. And the pick used will be a medium hook. Ok its a trick and a half to learn but you basically use the storng tension and doing thins clearly dileniates when the pins have binded and sometimes you have to relise minimal tensions and eventually it pops. I dont know if this lock is what you have.. but if your used to easy masters...there really a pathetic lock.. get the R70 Disc lock.... its a good challenge And if this not the lock post a pick or a modle number or a site reference giving us a good look at the lock, also it wouldnt hurt to show your picks.. the more we know the more we can help.. hope i helped buddy

all I have is this Brinks 40 MM 4 pin master style and a couple masters.
