For pin tumblers, I always like trying my rake first, and if I can't get a lock open with that, I use a hook. 8)

For waferlocks, I like using either a snowman or half snowman.

I will list my favorite pick per lock type.

Wafer: I know i will be flamed, but my quick pick...lol its all its good for and i always carry it just in case..lol so flame away!

Pin Tumbler: Start always with my L rake, then fine tune with a steep half daimond or shallow depending on lock. For a lock with security pins, I use my hook or diamond to get the false set, the not off tension and use the L rake to knock the buggers to shear.

Tubular Lock: Southord New style 7 pin. ( I rarely use this excpt on the couple pick lock i have and a ace 2 i got from a locksmith..more of a compulsive buy.

I don't like to waste time switching picks, so I use the same pick for all wafer-tumbler and conventional pin-tumbler locks. A hook.

I like to rake with the snake or snowman a couple times and set the rest with the hook.

I use a hook most of the time and when the hook is just not working for me I use a half diamond pick. Those are my favorite picks.
