Reconfiguring an Ilco Unican

Postby Isakill » 13 Mar 2006 22:35

As some of you may be well aware I'm in my local Fire Dept. We use these locks on our doors to TRY to keep out some of the non-affiliated personelle.
At our meeting tonight the Chief and Asst. Chief caught a said non-affiliate inside the building without the proper accompanyment of one in the Dept.
Unfortunatly almost everyone that knows individuals in the Dept. knows the code.

From using the search button I have learned that changing the combo is as easy as just taking the lock apart and shifting a couple pins.

Is it really THAT easy? The Unican has 2 or 3 discs in it that control the lockout function, and that can be changed around at the users whim.

I don't know the actual model number but the key that unlocks the backplate is labled "Unican Ilco" and in the knob is an Arrow Plug.

The faceplate features 5 vertical numbers and we have a 3 number combo inplace. and the Capt. has one at his home just like it he's going to let me borrow to play with.

I guess all I'm asking is pretty much do I have some of the knowledge nessesary to get this done maybe tomorrow while the officers are present to choose a new combo?

Simp 1 looks exactly like the lock, and I'm guessing 2 - 4 are pics of the back and innards. So yeah that was what I was thinking.

According to the link you gave me first there is a tool you have to use to change the combo. According to my Chief the locksmith that installed them took the papers for the locks . so, I'm assuming the tool went with him as well. :x

Good thing the Capt. has another one. he might be able to provide the tool.
