Need help with Code on back of cylinder

Ok here is what i have, I picked open yet another lock i do not have a key for and am trying to find a key blank for it. The cylinder resembles a schlage style cylinder because it has a screw on cap like schlage and has the numbers (maybe the keyway) stamped on the back of it. The only problem i have is i cannot find anything under this number at all. So i am posting here to see if anyone knows what key blank this will take. I took some pictures of the front of the cylinder to see if anyone recognizes it and the numbers on the back to see if if anyone know what they are. Well here are some pics:

The back of the cylinder reads 3578 which i cannot find in my ilco key directory or on any website.

That code is not a key code,

Search the ilco keyblank directory for schlage, then match your cylinder to one of the pictures.

I already did that and it comes very very close to the 1467 and 1348 keys but they do not fit. All the rest of the keys in the schlage section do not match this cylinder.

I know that most schlage cylinders have the Keyway stamped on the back of them, Besides C Keyway. But i have never seen the 3578 before and am not sure if that is a Keyway or some stamp that just happens to be on there. Most likely it is some sort of Keyway because the stamping is to small and perfect for it to be something that a locksmith etc. stamped on there.

Ilco doesn't show restricted/patented cylinders do they?

Maybe theres the problem.

That is the only thing i am thinking at the moment. It has to be something either newer that my copy of the ilco directory or it has some kind of restriction or patent. I am not sure, maybe someone on LP101 may know what this is. because i sure have never seen it.

Have you tried shimming it then measuring pins to see if it corresponds to any particular brands keying rules?

That keyway is quite complex, and probably is some restricted keyway. Something about that cylinder whispers schlage to me. I don't know what it is, but just the way its finished makes me think schlage. They do produce plenty of keyways that are restricted and don't appear pictured even in their literature.

Well, I just went skimming through the North American Cylinder section of the latest Kaba catalog, and I didn't see anything quite right in there. The closest shapes I saw were in the Schlage, Arrow, and Illinois sections, though I doubt it's an Illinois lock. Might be some restricted Arrow or Schlage. I'm afraid the best I've got at the moment is a colossal shrug of the shoulders and a healthy dose of sympathy.

Well I found out that this is a Member of the Schlage Numbered Family and that this is indeed a restricted Keyway. It is not a restricted as the Primus and Everest keys so they do not just sell keys to anyone but you can get them.

Here is a little info i got on them:

The Numbered Family (formerly Paracentric) is a very large family of non-patented, restricted keyways; restricted in distribution, though not in manufacture (for patented restricted keyways, please see Everest family keyways). Each Keyway and key section name consists of four numbers, e.g. 1234, 1348, etc.

Numbered keyways are not furnished for new key systems; they are furnished only to support existing systems.

Numbered family keyways are not Primus compatible.

So i see that they are not patented so getting aftermarket key blanks should not be that hard to come by.

How do you get "aftermarket" key blanks?

well i am guessing that you would have to call your supplier and ask if they carry any in that Keyway. I know that they probably will not list the keys in the catalog since they are indeed restricted. i know that the ilco key directory lists a few of the restricted keyways but not very many. As far as i know you probably will not get them unless you are a locksmith dealing in that Keyway or are a customer with the right paper work to obtain some more from schlage.
