regular tubular vs ace II and difficulty

Postby Agent 99 » 14 Apr 2006 3:46

I'm thinking about walking over to the dark side and trying my hand at tubular locks having had a fairly good beginning with pin tumblers.

So I'm looking at the SouthOrd 7 pin tubular pick. (Since my practice lock is a 7 pin ace II) Is this considerably easier than pin tumbler locks or what? Not having tried a tubular I'd venture a guess the tubulars take less skill. Also, are the Ace II's considerably harder than a normal tubular?

thanks

SouthOrd

Most of these are not hard with the SouthOrd picks, but I am told that the SouthOrd tubular picks are not the best, but that is what I have so cannot comment on that.

The ace ll is a bit harder than the other ace locks, it has a mix of soft copper springs and harder stainless springs in it to frustrate the tubular pick, you can press down on the pins and test the pressure to find this out.

If you are hobby picking leave the tubular picks alone theres not much skill and wasted if your doing it for fun, pick the lock manually to get the benefits from it.
