EZ6 HPC key extractor set

Postby Sbecspeledrx » 28 Apr 2006 8:48

Well, mines just arrived in the post. And I'm about to snap a few keys off in some car wafer locks and pin tumblers to get used to it. Any tips from anyone before I start? Anyone else use the tool?

I'll let you all know the results, as soon as my experiments are complete!

Here's a link to the tool.

In your practicing for reality, break the keys off at different points, and have them at different points within the lock.

Also, try breaking WRONG keys and jamming them into the lock...you may want to save THAT for last though...hehehe..

If you are comfortable in disassembling the locks (and you should be if you want to experiment with that sort of thing) and have extra parts (which is also a very good idea) Deliberately bend a wafer or two, or remove a spring or two in order to simulate different problems that such locks have.

Right. Well that was fun. There is nothing easier than getting the correct key out of a pint tumbler lock with this tool, and nothing more impossible than getting a piece of Vauxhall key from a wafer lock with a bent wafer - Cheers Vajreal

I found it much easier to screw the circular saw type bit over the top of the key with pin tumblers, pulled the broken key out first time every time. But with wafers this technique got me nowhere. I kept hooking the wafers and couldn't budge the key. I had a little more success going round the side of the key, right to the tip, through one of the grooves. But still nowhere near as much success as with the pin tumblers. As for the bent wafers. Now I have to strip the lock again Vajreal :P

The second worst extraction I've done is on a blank that was filed in one spot at an abrupt angle to make it impossible to withdraw -- meant for use in a semi-destructive cylinder-pulling entry.

I'm not telling if I'm the one who got it stuck in there.

The worst extraction I've done is on a key that got stuck at the 180-degree point because of irregularities on the spine of the blank. This doesn't seem like a big problem, but if you think about it you'll understand why it is. Tremendous bother. 8)

Semi-destructive? What is semi about pulling?

Sounds evil. Did you get it out and still had a functional lock? To me this sound like something that would make me check the battery charging status on my rotary drill...

I've been told this can be done on Kwiksets with a bump key.
