Bizarre question, what locks do they have in singapore

Postby sidpick » 26 Apr 2006 4:58

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could be so kind in telling me what types of locks you could find in singapore and the more 'developed' parts of china / far east ( i.e: cities)

I would of thought it would be cylinder locks, has anyone got first hand knowledge of locks used - specific brands etc

Funny question I know, any answers would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't think it's a bizarre question. Singapore is like anywhere else in Asia - they're looking at the best locks around and adapting them to their market.

Its been a while since I looked, but they have lots of pin tumbler locks, wafer locks, some lever (remember - it was a British colony). They seem to like Kaba and dimple locks too, but I suspect ASSA Abloy is making inroads...

One thing I recall is car locks - the aftermarket shops sell ACE and Keso/Kaba locks to retrofit cars and vans.

Funny how you memory gets jogged - I also remember seeing lots of cheap imitations of Abus/Abloy locks by various names like Rocket. They may be from China though.

Looking at places like newsparkling it seems copied MTL are quite common, those places dont seem to sell much lever tooling so i guess they arent like over here.

Cool, Ta for the replies, Thats what I was suspecting - recon there will be quite a lot of electrical stuff too!!

Thats good info about the after market car locks - that could really ruin your day!!!

Hopefully I'll find a local 'safeventures' with decoders!! Its a long trip back for tools!!

Thanks!

I wasn't in a fit state to be looking at locks while I was there. The hotels all had magnetic strip card readers, but other than that, I don't know.
