7 Pin Tubular lockpick

Postby Rubberducky » 26 Apr 2006 14:26

I saw a video where a guy opened a high security bike lock in just 5 seconds without ANY effort. Is every bike lock THAT easy? And aren't those the same locks as on vending machines...?

Most generally on a decent quality 7 pin tubular lock you're not going to open it in 5 seconds even with a specialty pick. It may be possible on the cheaper ones, but I'm not sure. It would take longer than 5 seconds and it would take a bit of effort just to get the pick set up. Picking with standard picks is a pain in the butt because the lock re-locks every few degrees of rotation and you have to pick them several times to achieve opening.

Well, once oyu get the hang of it , well first theres two styles, theres the standard from Soulthord, where you set the needles flush with the end insert and turn till it opens, also you can use the pick to single pin pick it till you get a slight rotation, pause before it resets, then reset pick with no tension and impression the key code and then its open plus you can make a key for the customer. And no tubular locks are not on vending machines, well not most anymore, and the ones that are have ace 2's some of which the lock diameter doesnt fit the standard picks except the peterson but that 350 dollars. Most i have seen and my vending buddies opt for now is the medeco cam lock, which no newbie will ever pick..well maybe luck but i would rather place a bet on the lottery. And the Bic pen trick is purely luck of the Pin Combo but on a good lock, i would say noway.

Tubular locks used to be used on vending machines. I still see them some places, like elevator fireman keys.

Has anyone ever tried to make a bumpkey out of a tubular lock? Shouldnt the same principal apply here?

That topic was discussed in other forums and the the answere would be no, ace 2's have vaiabe spring tension so getting a good hit is unlikely. FOr a starter your better to just single pin pick them its going to take 2-5 times picking to the locks opened because the pins reset every so may degrees.

You would have to make a shoulder of some sort but it's possible.

a bump key for tubular locks would be awsome, but hard to make with out a machine
