can anyone help me?

Postby LK: » 24 Apr 2006 12:26

Hey everyone. I was clearing out some old stuff and i came across these keys that i have had for years. I forgot i even had them. Recently i have been experimenting with them trying different padlocks and the only ones that seem to be working are the ones that i have circled in red. So what are the other ones for? Is anyone familiar with them?

Cheers,

L:K

Those are warded picks. They only work on warded locks. Some of them are different than the ones sold today. The new sets have 5 picks that should open any warded lock made.

I actually lost the key to my guitar case a while back and rather than pick it each time or get a new one, I cary around a warded key pick (similar the first one circled) and it works smoothly. The beauty is that it still looks like a normal key so it's not awkward to carry around. All in all though I think a warded lock pick is a glorified paperclip.

your set

that is a nice set of warded padlock picks, they only work on certain types of cheap locks, but no other pick will do those types of locks. the double crossed T will be quite useful. although now you would need one more with a slightly larger space between the two cross pieces to open every varient of the warded locks. Don' t throw them away, if you have no use for them, someone will buy them inthe bst thread of this site.

All of them except for the 2nd one from the right should work exactly like the ones you have circled. The varying sizes are just for bigger and smaller locks. I don't know what that prodded one is for. I've never come across anything requiring it in all the warded locks I've seen. Here is a picture of the current warded "picks" (more like a bypass tools) being sold:

You can also take an old warded key i here and grind it down and make a homeade master key... literlly lol i tried it it worked but in all honesty from a locksmiths point of view i have never seen one in use.

Bend a piece of bicycle spoke to a 90 degree bend. I did this and it worked on the padlock I have every time. If you have acces to LSA then there's a video ofd my wonder-wire on there. :)
