fave picks?

Postby Krypos » 2 May 2006 20:17

So, just out of curiosity (which happened to kill the cat) what type of picks (not brand, per say) but what type of pick does everyone round here prefer? classic hook? or something a bit more spicy...like a snake or diamond or maybe something super homemade (i know there is a whole other post of homemade picks) just curious as to people's fave picks. and why?! do you feel it makes picking go faster or easier or what? or does it simply look cooler?

I try to become proficient with as many picks as possible. If a diamond isn't doin the job, grab a hook, if the hook fails grab a reach pick, if that fails grab a rake.....I practice with many picks, so I really don't have a favorite. I usually won't mess around with 1 pick too long. If it don't open the lock in a reasonable time, I'm reaching for one of the other 16 picks in the case. Usually though, either a half diamond or a hook do the trick the biggest part of the time.

as i am fairly new to picking i will usually give any lock i find a good try with a half dimond or a hook, and if that doesn't pan out i just go for one of my favorite rakes to keep the lock guessing.

LOL. i find that as a newbie, a makeshift half diamond type dealio works really well, and if not then my hook. just thought id ask cuz its interesting to see what everyone else is doin.

so shrub...were you a lockpicker or a lockie first? i mean did you like picking and then made a career out of it or were you like "i want to be a locksmith because my great grandfather, shrub the first was a lockie"

My set of Falle Safe picks.. which would essentialy mean I prefer hooks lol. :)

Half diamonds never really did it for me, and I've never really understood why. :?

You know ive typed this massive long life story and decided that a) you all dont need to know it and b) i dont want you all to know it so to cut that long story short i didnt really do much picking before being a lockie.

Im an engineer and the logical progression when i decided to work for myself was a lockie, i dont have a local one and like the idea of helping people out with a skill not known by the general public.

Theres a lot more o it than that but as i say its not the place to go into it.

Anyway i read everywhere that i could earn £10k a week being one  nah not really money was NEVER the issue, i wanted to do somthing i was interested in, i still go to every job almost excited with not knowing what problems im going to have to solve, i love it (its the back stabbing in the industry along with the cowboys i dont like).
