KW10 key?

Postby LockNewbie21 » 7 May 2006 14:31

Me and my mom where spring cleaning and she found the box of old keys from before i was born and one's we no longe use, there was a KW10 key in there, it seems like a waste of a key, at first it looked like it was for six pin kwicksets but when i put it in my cut away its for five pins. Is there anyreason they made this massive key? I mean the only thing i could see it useful for is theres plenty of room to hold for bumping. Has anyone else seen one of these KW10's? I will post a picture with my sisters digital camera for anyone interested.

It can be cut for both five and six pins, depending on which shoulder you use.

Kwikset Titan--decent lock, it IS actually ANSI Grade 2, and usually has 5 pins.

Kwikset Titan is a 6 PIN LOCK. The 6th cut is right by the shoulder. so if you put in a 5 pin blank, the last pin will not be used.

If you look at the key, the top shoulder goes into the plug itself.

On the subject of massive keys, does anyone own a KW1-BIG? They're enormous! I'd like to find these in steel to make bumpkeys from.

I have a cylinder removal key that came with our front door lock. (yes, I admit we have a Kwikset lock on our door. If I had the money for a medeco, I would buy one). Anyways the key is huge.
