One of these days I'll have it all down. But right now I know very few German lock terms, and I haven't even started on French yet. So I'll be needing it alright. For now, does anyone know of some good safe technician publications in Spanish, Italian, or German? (I avoid reading in English. It just seems counterproductive.)

italian translations

Postby greyman » 9 May 2006 7:09

Thanks for that - but babelfish is not really up to technical translation standard! It seems to be OK for simple everyday stuff, but locksmithing terminology is like any other specialised field - you have to know it as well as the language you're translating into.

Acutally, I found that the site http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/ is pretty decent even for technical stuff in German, but I don't know of any on-line translation engines that are good enough for French or Italian. Maybe that is why the German dictionary split off from the http://www.wordreference.com/ site, which only offers "romance" languages now.

Thanks for the offer. I would like to check on my translation of "wafer" (as in disc tumbler). I was told that Italian word is also "wafer". Is this right?
