I bought this set of tools and a book but I'm still very far from opening any lock - is there anything I'm missing? Please help me!!

3. Practice

That is indeed a fine set of picks and wrenches, of course there are better out there, but those are pretty good. I learned lockpicking by taking a cheap lock apart and removing the pins, and inserting them back in one at a time, mastering each number. I had problems with 4, and eventually 5, but with time and a lot of effort, you can get 5 quite easily. You can then move onto other locks.

One way i learned is to just pick up a cheap lock, and try picking it while watching tv. During commercials, turn your full attention to it, and try to get a 'feel' for what is going on inside the lock. With this method, I found that I gained a lot of experience in a little amount of time. Good luck.
