questions

hi, im am a new member but have searched the forums and havent found anything to answer these questions.
i recently recieved a small pick set through the post and have been trying on 5 pin type locks to pick them, i have read tutorials and seen videos.
ive successfully picked a lock twice, i think by luck, and since then have broken a saw tooth type pick [woops :s]. the problem i have is when trying to do pin by pin, if the pick accidently touches one of the others [which i thought where held in place] they flick up again, is this normal and whats the best way round this?
and second question it doesnt feel very smooth trying to push the pins down, what i mean by this isit feels like the pick is falling either side of the pins or going to far or something, i just cant make out any solid definition sometimes it feels like the pick will just slip off if im pushing down on a pin, like theyre very slippy and loose, is this normal or is there a technique to counter act this?
thanks
azure

At the top of the PickFu section is a sticky called Beginner's Lockpicking Exercise. From what I can see, I think you'd do well to go through this exercise quite diligently. It will take a while, but you will benefit greatly from the experience.

Hope this helps,

The nice thing about picking is that it really is a skill. There aren't any shortcuts (besides bumping  and that is a skill in itself). Luck is a factor at first, soon however, you will find that impossible lock is easy, and you will move up. I think people who want to use it for shady purposes just get discouraged and figure there are easy ways to get around a lock, which there are. Don't get frustrated, you are training your hands to do fine motor skills they are probably not used to, and you are training your senses to pick up on small signals the lock gives you, it takes time and practice.

If it helps, and I'm not sure if this is DB's excercise, use a key and lock to mark lines on your pick so that they line up with the outside of the keyway so you know exactly what pin you are under and when you are directly under it.

Good luck, happy picking
