Excellent - another first time poster going straight for the bumpkey question. :!:

Lets not make the first post an introduction eh? All about how keen you are to learn this hobby/profession.....etc. Nope - its straight into making bumpkeys.

Bump keys are cool when you open a hard lock in seconds, but it just looses all interst after about 3 days playing around with it.

lol horsefeathers, I am a "to the point" type of person and what I had read still left me with the question of wether bump keys were an option since I dont really have the money or room to buy a series of door locks and take them a part and practice on them.

Padlocks on the other hand are cheap and I have a keey cutter in my basement somewhere. Besides, I am the type of person who would like to take something like this on blind and then when I find that IF it doesnt work with the limited info I have on it so far to figure out why it doesnt work. If I just wanted to know how the lock works I'd pick one a part and leave it at that, never getting this skill down.

I know I was going somewhere with all this but I'm not really sure where. Long story short I have never been very good at social curtasies, or spelling at 4am for that matter. >.<

There really is a ton of info here on bumpkey making.....get a cheap padlock with a couple of keys or more, and file away the cuts on one of them bit by bit to just past the lowest cut possible until you get it to work, though they are not 100% on all locks, so it may never work on the particular padlock pin combo.

Oh.....then there is the hammer with which to hit the key with. Tons of posts on the 'correct' hammer to use. I use one I cobbled together in my workshop.

Correct hammer + perfect bumpkey + timing skill = probable opening!

Good luck!

hammers

Postby harvengure » 8 Jun 2006 13:15

that was another variable I was going to experiment with... was going to do it without a hammer at first and experiement from there. I know there is a lot of into but I find doing something wrong and then correcting it leads to a better understanding then doing it right the first time due to example.
