Masterlock 140 NEED HELP!

Postby screamdudeguy » 6 Jun 2006 22:08

I am new to this whole lock picking thing, I bought a set of picks (pxs-14) which (to me) seem like good quality picks. I bought a master lock #3 as my first lock, which for the first 24 hours i couldn't pick but then I realized I was using too much pressure on the tension wrench. Now I can pick that lock in less than 10 second with both one pin at a time method and the racking method. I wanted a little challenge so I went and bought a master lock #140. I am having so much trouble picking this lock. If I remember correctly, there are spool pins in this lock. I am having troble setting even one pin on this lock. Can anyone please give me tips or information that will help me pick this lock. If anyone owns this lock and could make a video of them picking it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

It's got spool pins. Search the forum for info on spool and security pins, it's been covered enough times you should have no problem finding relevant info. There is even a good animation somewhere. Fine, I’ll even link you to a Goggle video of it (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... ck+picking).

In a jist, pick it normally, until the plug turns a few degrees (a spool pin gets caught at the sheer line). Push up on the pins one at a time, and the spool pins will tend to turn the plug back. Ease up on torque to let the spool pop up, and continue picking until it opens.

Next time search the forum before asking a question that has been answered numerous times.

140 can be bypassed in seconds by overlifting the pins. bit silly after making the effort to put spool pins in

140 is also highly suceptible to rockers.

It can also be bypassed by pulling in the two locking bolts from the back of the keyway while pulling on the shackle.
