Did I waste some cabbage?

Hi All,
I recently got some picks and three practice cylinders of 2 3 and 5 pins each, and was starting to think that maybe I wasted my money on the practice cylinders. As soon as I opened the box and started picking I got through the three cylinders in about 7 minutes...did I waste my money on the 2 and 3 pin cylinders? I've since progressed to all the doors in our house and gotten through them all fairly quickly...

I didn't think it would be that easy to progress to a five pin cylinder....but, uh, guess I just have two way too easy cylinders, LOL.

Also, as a side note....do any locks regularly use more than five pins? Thanks...

I'd say you wasted your money. You can always get a cheap deadbolt, and remove pins, at less than half the cost of a single practice cylinder. Practice cylinders are not good for practice either, only for demonstrating to someone how picking works.

Most household locks will have 5 pins installed. Locks used commercially will often have 6 or 7 pins.

It also shows the locks on your house are not up to a good standard and also do not pick locks you rely on.

oh, also what I bought were called practice cylinders, but are not the "cut away" cylinders.

Guess I should have researched a bit before I spent the money on the way too easy cylinders, LOL...not to mention overpriced. Hey, at least I'm learning, hehe.

Well you can get some spare pins and springs and just pin them to full 5 pin locks.

yeah, I was thinking of that...would you suggest putting some security pins in to change things up and help my skill?

Sure why not, if they are that easy to pick some security pins will be the next logical step before getting some better quality locks.

Hehe, I guess if I screw up the locks I'll just have to replace them, Will have to check out online, maybe Ebay, and get some old locks, and maybe pins.
