Hey all. I heard from someone that there are some kind of clubs that a person can join (like some locksmithing club) so that if they get stopped by a cop, the cop would at least know that they are doing it for the hobby (not for crime) and maybe let them go. Just something I heard...I was wondering if there is anything like that. All comments are appreciated! Thanks.

Where do you live?
Take a look at the LSI but as for getting stopped and getting away with things no, you were stopped for a reason and bringing places like the LSI into it is not what the other members want,

eh...not really, its locksport clubs. look at the bottom of the homepage for locksport groups.
it probably wont and cant get you out of trouble with 5-0. and especially if its illegal to carry picks in your state. if its against the law, then only if you are a locksmith are you cool.
and i tried to get a LP101 club card going, but alas, i cant do it due to copyright infringement and crap.

I live in Spokane, WA (sorry, forgot to add that to my profile). I was just thinking that being part of a club would show that it is for a hobby and not for a crime...it's just in case I get caught picking my own lock (I don't have keys to the garage, I'm always putting my rear-end on the line there...everyone can see) or a lock for a friend if they get locked out or something. I'm not sure if carrying picks in my state is legal too (I saw that it is a "gross misdemeanor," but I'm not sure what that means ). Anyways, thanks for the help!

alot of states are kinda vague on the topic. it seems that most tend to put the burden of proof on the prosecution. I.E. - if you aren't doing anything illeagal, it probably wont be much of an issue. however, if you end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could be the hottest suspect in the last rash of home burglaries...
I recently got pulled over for...um forgeting to renew my registration in january...ahem.... I had picks in my tool kit, but not once was I worried about it. I do building repair and maintence, and it is generally accepted that a service tech can carry them, since we have legitimate work related uses for them. After all, many companies restrict sale to "locksmiths, automotive techs, law enforcment/ security professionals, and building maintence personel"...
