wood picks, would it work?

I was wondering if you guys think making picks out of wood would work? I have alot of excess wood left over from a previous project and don't know what to do with it.

Unlikely, they'd probably splinter and break off inside the lock. I wouldn't try it.

They may do if you harden them but as said a breakage would be quite probable,

Put your wood to a lock board instead :wink:

yeah i would love to do a lockout job for someone who had a wood lock on their door i think itd go something like this:

customer: "hi, yeah i have this lock on my door and im locked out, can you open it for me?"
me: "yeah sure, gimme your location ill be there shortly...ok thanks"
*upon arrival*
me: "ok so...um this is the lock?"
customer: "yup, i lost my keys"
me: "umm...ok"
**whips out lighter**
-sets lock on fire, watches it burn quickly due to varnish-
me: "ok your all set, i can install a new, safer lock for you for fairly cheap if you wish"
customer: "oh, ok thanks!"

on the drive home....
me: "a f****** wooden lock! never, never doubt the stupidity of the general public"

yeah, so...yeah.

Theres a few wooden locks around here, burn one of those and youll not only get the owner after you but the council and perhaps national heritige etc for destroying part of our heritige lol

I think the actual bolt is still a bit of wraught iron but the case's are certainly wooden and many still in use,

Next time i see one ill grab a photo of it and post it in this thread unless im beaten to it by someone else,

I don't think wood would work well as a pick (no pun intended). But Linus Yale used a wooden key to impression even his most advanced bank locks. So yes, wood can open locks.

obviously either a hardwood for the pick or a close grained wood for the locks and impressioning, perhaps a hickory pick and a boxwood impressioning blank, for those who are afraid the pick will break, use willow.

If you get paid by the hour and encounter a wooden lock, you might want to consider the use of termites instead of a lighter!

Or if you want to look more high tech, and it's a sunny day, try a magnifying glass!

Yes - but "thermite" has an "h" in it so the pronunciation is quite different in English from "termite". I think some European languages would not hear the difference as much since "th" is a hard sound to pronounce for some non-English speaking people. I thought a better pun was on "would" and "wood"
