First Lockpick Set

Postby RockInBlack » 28 Jul 2006 14:22

I am getting pretty good at picking with improvised picks, but there are many locks i would like to try but my "picks" are too big. For these reasons I am going to get a set of real lockpicks. I found this 8 piece set for about $27 (with shipping added) and wanted to ask some experienced people if they are worth getting.

Thanks,
Sean

Personally no,

Have a look at the sites sponcer at the south ord sets and keep in mind the discount code which gets you 10% knocked off the price,

Other than that you may get the same sets from sothern specialities that are marked blemished but on reciept of them chances are you wont tell any differance,

I bought a 14 piece set from lockpickshop.com for $30 shipped, they seem to have a constant sale on that set. and because it's a sale, you can't get another 10% off. but not to worry, it's a good deal as is, already $10 off.

So now I'm thinking about getting a folding pocket set. Such as http://www.lockpickshop.com/p-JPXS-6.html

Do you think the individual picks would be better?

folding sets arent the best for learning. they are better for the experienced picker who needs to carry picks with him easily. go for normal picks or if youre in europe somewhere, then go slimline. but really, what i did was get a 14 piece set from SO and then added on two slimline picks, a short hook and a small diamond. this was great for me.

and you get far better feedback in solid picks then from folding sets.

go for the reg picks until you are really good, then think about whether you want it or not. also. dont get a set too big if its your first. for two reasons:

1) you may not need 32 pieces or so. usually about 14-17 is good to start, or less if you really dont have or dont want to spend that much money.
2) what if you try out picking, and then dont like it? then you have a huge set on your hands and thats bad. and your out $XX.

start fairly small and try it out.

rock inblack and everyone else check out this place. i was going to wait till Monday to call him and reverify that he will sell to hobbyist. i ordered and he said he would. he only takes phone orders now but most of the web prices are good or cheaper. that pick gun is really $16 not $19 if the prices were wrong they where cheaper. the 32 piece pick set for $34 they are u.s. lock picks there the same as southords i just bought a set every thing is the same. he has a catalog that has more picks like hpc.
just call and place an order. if he ask you where you found out about him just tell him that your from lp101 and Ben from buffalo told you about him.
I GOT THE OK FROM DB TO POST THIS.
