Sentry lockbox picked but cant re-lock please help!!

Postby alucard369 » 30 Aug 2006 17:35

I read a little about lock picking and thought id give it a try myself.
I found i could pick my mother's lock fairly easily and have never had any trouble closing and locking the box after picking it. But, this time I turned the pick a full 90 degrees which caused it to lock in that position. I cant seem to pick it again to close the box because i cant apply tension the same way to keep the first pin up so i can rake the remaing pins. wow. please help me. my mom wont understand and ill be in some severe trouble maybe. PLEASE!! and thanks for your time.

I'm not sure what to tell you, as far as your lock goes, but be as specific as possible with the folks of this forum, as in, exactly what kind of lock it was and pictures if you have them.

And, more importantly, however this turns out, you're learning, right now, not to pick locks you rely on. :( I learned in a very similar way. It sucks, but I wish you the best of luck.

I dunno dude, pictures will help, as will a model no. etc. Try picking it in both directions, and keep at it for a while. Maybe you'll get it.

As already said dont pick locks you rely on!!

Wheres the key at? Maybe you could just use that?

oh,

is the box open right now, or is it closed? (I'm assuming closed, but you never know.)

Well it doesnt say, but I bet it's just a simple wafer lock.

Try picking it in both direstions as I said, and keep at it.

How were you picking it? Pin by pin or raking?
I have best results on wafer locks by lightly raking them. If this isnt what youre doing, try it.

Other than that, just keep trying.

And may I sudjest a proper practice lock in the future? A nice kwikset or master lock is a muchbetter starting lock than your parents lockbox

And I assume the money and or valuables in the lockbox are untouched, right?

Hmm, a close up pic of the lock will help us identify it for you. I suspect its a wafer lock, but I could be wrong.

Its a wafer lock, you need to use a ball pick and your probably not lifting it high enough,

You shouldnt be picking locks in use,

This is a money box so not suitable for discussion,

Maybe youve gotten somthign you shouldnt from the box and are now trying to cover your tracks? if not tell your mum to lock it again and then dont touch it,

If you are rakign with anything other than a ball pick stop it as you can be damageing it,
