Superglue was developed as an emergency in-field wound treatment by the US military, and the reason it sticks your fingers together is the same: on contact with oily deposits in your skin, it instantly forms a polymer.
(Sorry about the chemistry!)
Incidentally, the above is exactly the same reason it's used to detect fimgerprints in Forensic Science.
