well i have been practicing on a master lock no3 , but its just a little too easy. could anyone tell me a good lock thats harder than the master lock but not too. thanks.

There are differences in locks, not stating the obvious but, a lock that is easy for me is or may not be easy for you.

That being said, try going to a dollar,convenience or hardware store and purchase a few varieties, check the keys if possible to insure a different biting (in some cases two locks with different key cutting depths but a similar sequence can be similar in how the lock is being picked).

ie. If lock #1's key is cut to 34365 with no security pin, and lock #2's key is cut to 23254 also with no security pin. Even though the pins may not set in the same order for each lock, the locks are similar being that the only difference is a one cut depth difference for each pin.

I have also come across pairs of locks where the pins set in the same order on different brands. It just happens this way sometimes, good luck and post your findings if any.

well if you find the #3 easy you might want to try the master #140 or 141, both are the same accept one has a plastic coating. It's a four pin tumbler with spool pins. Others like it and find it challenging, personally I find it just as easy as the #3. You can find them at Walmart. A much better spool lock is a brinks 1-9/16 solid brass padlock, pn 101-40001. You can find them at Walmart for about $5. This lock smokes the master 140. 100% better quality. It's a much better representation of spool pins, but not too difficult to pick, yet enough of a challenge to keep your interest. IMHO this is the perfect lock to practice with spool pins!

If your SPP your #3 and honestly find it easy, try one of those locks mentioned.

A cheap lock that will provide a bit more challenge than a Master #3 is the 2" Mountain Security brass padlock that you can pick up at Wal-Mart. It has 6 pin stacks as opposed to 4 in the Master lock, which increases the difficulty somewhat. I always look at the keys when buying locks and try to get locks with high/low combinations.

well i am happy with the locks . I cant get eather of them bu i am using very poorly made picks. it will be better when i get my pick set. well ill get it practice makes perfect.
