Popcan Shim

Postby bumpit » 21 Sep 2006 0:37

I purchased a black Master combination lock today to try the pop can Shim technique. I shaped the Shim around the U part of the lock. Every time I inserted the Shim it would break off in the inside. I have seen over 100 videos of complete dim-witted people pulling off this technique and I was wondering if there was something I was doing wrong or if I should switch to more of a stronger Shim using an Aerosol can. The M part of the Shim seemed very weak with Aluminum metal. I am a Welding student and I do have access to sheet metal if anyone knows the best gauge for the job.

The U sides are the weakest parts of the shim. Make sure everything's smooth there without any cuts or tears. My aluminium shims break, on average, after being used 4-5 times, and that's only after I become violent with them.

are you putting them straight down into the lock? if so, you need to put them in with the handles facing towards the back of the lock and turn it 90' so they face to the left side.

someone wrote a guide for them, overall the guide doesnt pose anything new or awesome, but at the end, there is a part on using them, i found it very helpful once upon a time.

I used this guide but it does not show you how to operate the Shim exactly, but I will figure it out. I will try stonger metal and not have any sharp edges on the Shim. Thanks for helping yet another noob :D

Before you make such rubbish statements please make sure youve read the whole thread, you get the benefit of the experiance from the other members and saves the site being littered by threads such as this one which could have been avoided,

Maybe look at page 3 on that thread then tell us that the guide doenst show you how to use a shim :?

That thread is pretty comprehensive, and this thread has served it's purpose.
