How to open a Weiser Leverset?

I somehow managed to do this a couple years ago but can’t remember what the trick is. I need to re-key some Weiser Leversets but can’t figure out how to get it open so I can change the pins. I do not need to pick it, I have the current keys. Any hints?

Is it a cylinder or lock in knob?

Both have guides on site to tell you but for a cylinder click my picture and look for the repinning guides

Is there a tiny hole or slot on the outside of the lever?

If so try unlocking the lever, then turning the lever as far as it will go in one direction. The press in the hole or slot with a tiny piece of metal such as a dulled nail, or a screwdriver. Try pulling the handle off. If this doesn't work, try turning the handle the other way the press in.

Here are some pics:



With this last one I am pointing to a black plastic piece with a screwdriver that I believe should slid into the handle releasing the cylinder. I do not believe the handle comes off. All Weiser’s I’ve dealt with, the cylinder comes out of the handle. With the old knob style I usually use what I call a slim pick to slide in next to the key to release the cylinder as it turns past the stop.

Looks like you need to turn the lever to line up the release/holding pin with that hole in the last pic. You may need to turn the key at the same time.

That looks like a Taiwanese Weiser!

I have tried every combination I can think of. The hole you see only goes through to part of the black plastic.

BTW, It's a bit of a trick to turn the lever to the hole, hold it against the spring, turn the key and tug on it at the same time. LOL

Nothing there worked. It does not open like a standard Weiser. I have a few of these new so I've got to figure it out. I'll try giving Weiser a call and see it they can tell me...

Finally figured it out. If it’s a new lock it comes with what looks like a privacy lock key. Like those stamped sheet metal dummy keys for bathroom/bedroom type locks. Turn the lever all the way one way and you find a hole in the shaft. Push the “key” all the way down into the lever shaft and it releases the lever. Pull the “key” out and the lever slides off. Next remove the black plastic keeper and the cylinder falls out.

Good you figured it out. It was what I was trying to tell you to do, I just didn't convey it right I guess.
