Rotary pick is fun, but Ive only had that pleasure once. I was asked to open up someones locked storage pantry. 6 pin schlage, 4 spools, and they were in a big hurry.

Short hook is my favorite, I just get the best feel from it.

Well I'll weigh in with my latest favorite being the the diamond hook. Someone recently turned me on to it by giving me a Rytan one and I love the feel I got with it, I remade the same shape with the grinder on a hs blade and I like it even more :)

it has to be the half diamond and the short hook depending on the lock, some of these uk locks are a bit tight for the hook sometimes.

hmn.. maybe I can just use that thread instead of opening a new one:
Is there anything like a "smaller-picks-pickset" out there? :]
I stumbled across several locks where I just couldn't get any of my picks in, there was too much in the way, like..
darn, I don't know a word.. like those "things" on the side of the keyway, which "hold" the key.. it moves along on those..
they are often arranged in such a way you can't get a pick in, cause it's to large..
I don't know what to do with those locks, I think with smaller picks you might lose control, because the pics would bend.. hmn. I don't know :]
... I should go and learn some english, by the way ;]

FuSL.
The slim line picks are made for that purpose, or i've heard it sudjested grinding down a half diamond or hook to be thinner. With these you would have to be more carful not to bend your pick(s).

I make mine from hacksaw blades and they work really good, you can make your own slim line picks from these or other materials that have been listed in these forums many times as well.

FuSL, your English is very good, don't worry, it's many times better than my German! :)

In reference to your:

they are often arranged in such a way you can't get a pick in, cause it's to large..

The 'things' are called 'wards'. Sometimes, a normal sized pick can be angled to pass the wards, and still pick the pins successfully. If you're concerned about bending slim/smaller picks though, I guess you may be using too much tension on the plug.
Image If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

huge thanks to both of you :]

well, I'm pretty sure I'm not using too much tension [I couldn't open my first locks because I didn't use enough tension, was almost "scared" of it.. :]
I just thought they might bend.. I never had any bending problems yet, though.

hmn.. luckily our firm is a metal processing one, like doing little metal things for cars by die cutting and other things.. :]
looks like I have to annoy my stepfather a little bit :]
