Era fortress

Postby lost profit » 23 Oct 2006 3:25

hi ime learning to pick the era fortress the only way i have picked this lock is working from the back of the lock where the bolt throws to the left. Ive picked it a grand total of twice ,Ime not the greatest . Have any of you picked this lock any other way with regular success?,and also is there another wire on the market other than f1 they break so easily and mr cb is getting greedy you cant get the wire without the thumb turn anymore .As you know you have to put in a lot of practice and that results in wear and tear on the pick no matter how careful you are. Any help appreciated.

wires

Postby scampdog » 23 Oct 2006 4:26

i've only seen the cb pick, so i cant comment on its use, but making the wires is simple. Take a length of 1.6mm piano wire (any good model shop), place it in a vice, and bend to 90 degrees, remove from the vice. Place the long side just below the top of the vice jaws, with the short end sticking vertically up, tighten the vice really hard and bend to the side 90 degrees (bend to the right for a right handed lock, and left for a left handed lock), cut the short end to the length you need, if you bend both ends opposite, all you have to do, is change the wire around to suit the lock you are opening
there's no such thing as gravity. The earth SUCKS!!

the F wire sold for the fortress is currently the only wire manufactured and sold on its own for the fortress and classic locks, i know chris and he is not money orientated, in fact makes very little money from his tools and spares, greed isnt a sentiment the man has in him at all.

the cost of the wire is less than the profit on one opening, so a worthwhile investment.

The f wire is a little harder to make as needs a lot more work on it to beat the warding and must be height perfect also.

Chris still does sell the standard wires without thumb turns according to his website just not the newer wires. I agree with Pinky in that Chris is not money motivated and has always been very helpful to me. Compare his prices with other pick makers and can you really complain ?

Yes I agree with the above comments made on Chris's behalf I have spoke to the man on the phone a few times and have always found him very helpful and certainly if you view his website they are sold seperate.
Compared to other picks and the number of locks that these will open provided that they are in skillful hands of course they are very good value for money.
