Short vs Long picks

I'm new to the sport and just wondering what everyone's opinions on short vs long picks are (i.e. Short Hook/Long Hook). Which would you recommend, which do you find more effective and for what purposes, etc.

Short picks are easiier to manuver in the keyway and provide adequate lift fot most key patterns. I use the long when I am not getting lift, very short pin behind a vary long pin

The longer hook,s are good for feeling around in lock the shorter for picking. But sometimes the longer ones can get behind pins already set.If that makes sence.

I am a medium kinda guy. I almost always start with a medium diamond, or a medium lifter.

In my opinion, you should have a small, medium and large diamond and lifter. After that, its good to have the DeForest picks and then you can just expand from there.

So you will probably find yourself using medium diamonds or lifters most of the time.

i personally like the short hook as its much easier to slide over the pins. Although its not as great of a feel of the pins as the long but its decent and works for me.
