having troubles

hey guys. I'm practicing picking on my back door. When I think I have all the pins up, I take a flashlight and look in, and all the pins are up but the lock won't turn. Am I doing something wrong?

It really isn't a good idea to practice on locks you use (like your door) But otherwise, they aren't always supposed to be all the way up, or they could be false set. I'd suggest to go out and get some padlocks to practice on to get hte feeling for it.

If the pins are up, and staying up then they are over set. You have driven the key pins past the shearline, and now they are being held in place.

Too much tension, and too agressive with the pick.

Calm down, and be more gentle with it. You will start to feel when the driver or upper pins are at the shear line, and when you should move to the next stack.

I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).
