I have considered spending some money on that course as well, just because it looks fairly good.

I haven't done so yet, so I can't offer any insight, but I would be interested in knowing the same thing.

Was it any good?

We bought the CDs about 2 years ago.Reason was to give new employees the basics into locks and the work we do.In short the guy on the CD loves himself, to may stupid stories about his career and life. The section on creating master lock systems will put you to sleep.Good to view once if you can borrow a copy but not worth the money if you have to buy it new.

I was a bit afraid of that.

The idea reminds me of Steve Hampton's books. All of the should have been titled "Locks I have Known and Picked". The guy is really short on instruction, and long on stories.

Did you get anything out of it at all, or would have recomended something different?

Hi Romstar
No we have not found any thing else and we did look.
There is a section where they are putting new locks on wooden cabinets .After he shows you how he does it ,he then lets the camera man have a go at it.Head wrecking. As i said good to view if you are brand new to the locksmith trade, but not if you have to buy it.Just my view.

I'm beginning to think that I may have an entirely new use for that new video camera we just bought.

Thank you for the insight into the video course.

I saw the lockpicking 101A advanced lockpicking course about 6 months ago. http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=335
About 25% of the first CD was Mike showing all of Southern Ord tools.
Don't get me wrong I like Southern Ord tools and I own several of them, I think the're fine tools, but it made me think that Southern Ord was the main sponsor of the video course. For a course that you have to pay for, it was a little much.

I was a little disappointed with the info on using picks. It did have some good info on using the tension wrench. It also showed using the tubular pick and a snap gun and the electric pick.
The second CD was mainly Mike trying to drill a EasySet deadbolt. He had a time with it. (pins wanted to spin)
Overall not a bad course, but could have shown more with picks and a lot less advertising.

every now and again they send me emails on there offers but i normally file the emails under `R` (rubbush) lol personaly if your going for locksmith training i think its better to have one on one with someone or like at a training school
videos are ok but you cant stop them and ask them questions if need be

I own the complete set. They won't turn you into a locksmith but that doesn't mean they are total rubbish (garbage). They are ok -- not great, not rubbish but ok. The instructor is a practical man, a locksmith with a practical focus and his content and style of instruction reflects that. The course is quite thin on technical detail is technique oriented and rather informal.

I learnt from it -- mainly general introductory locksmithing with a North American bias -- but I'm just a hobbyist. The lockpicking volumes were a little disappointing. I wouldn't buy the course for the lockpicking material.

HPC offer an instructional set of CDs: http://www.hpcworld.com/Software/w_htcds.htm I don't own these. The complete HPC set will cost about the same as the LVS course. I'd recommend investigating the HPC set before spending your money.
