Anyone know how to remove the plug on this lock so I can take a look at it. Its easy to scrub this lock, and is my first step up from the basic desk and filing cabinet locks. I would like to get a better idea of what is going on inside and then work at picking each pin individually rather then just scrubbing it. Thanks for any help.

Hi scott4957,

Could you post a picture of the lock from different angles, cuz I don´t know the lock, and therefore need to see it to help you, is it a wafer? I bet it´s easy to disassemble!

:D

It has a small hole in the side and then the same type hole on the bottom next to the key way. I assume once it is unlocked you use these two holes to somehow remove the plug, there is also some type of metal plug below the hole in the side. Thanks for the help.

Ok so it´s not a wafer, my bad.

Well, this is definitely, not, easy to disassemble, but can ofcause be done.

Some of the padlocks are made to be disassembled, but I think that the most of them are´nt.

The hole in the bottom, next to the keyway, is a drain-hole, and has nothing to do with lock-disassembling, now the hole in the side, makes me a little confused, I don´t know what that is!

I am sorry, but the pic. from link, did´nt help much, could you post some of your own?

The way I usually disassemble, is by means of drilling, you see, all you have to do, is to drill out the retainer-pin, and then the plug can come out, but don´t forget to put the hair-clip first!

Hi, i'm new here too. Looking at the picture I don't think this lock is re-keyable therefore you won't be able to remove the plug. I know with the masterlock pro series, they can be re-keyed. Open the shackle and look in and see if there is hex screw in there. You would unscrew that with an allen wrench and the bottom trap door would come out along with the plug. Best bet is go buy a rekeyable lock for about $15.00 to see what goes on on the inside.

Yeah the side is a drain hole as well, noticed that after i poked around a bit, but below that is like a pin or something inserted into the side, not brass like the body but possibly hardened steel like the lock. I'm not looking to drill it, i was just hoping I could take it apart easily to look at the guts. I'll find another lock to fool around with.

This lock is so easy to scrub its crazy, I bought this for my storage unit and am glad it never was broke into. Its a 5 pin and was supposed to be a better lock against picking and brute force, guess not.

Hold on there for a second, there´s a pin on the side, not made of brass like the rest?

Would that be the only pin, and is it close to the end where the shackle is, that just might be the retainer-pin!

I respect that you don´t want to drill, and possible break the lock, but there´s another option, now I am a non smoker, but have you seen how they sometimes take out there cancer sticks, by hitting the package on the outside with a finger, the same principle can used to take out the retainer-pin, by hitting side next to the pin, with a hard non metal object!

I believe you are correct, but I'm not having any luck getting it out. I'll work on it, but next I'm going to try to actually pick this lock rather then just rake it. I saw the great vid on making picks from hacksaw blades, better then hair pins LOL, but mine work pretty good for not ever seeing a pick LOL. Wish me luck.

Now I really want to get this retainer pin out, I think this lock may have spools in it. I can scrub it in about 2 seconds but can not pick it pin by pin. Not that I'm very good at this yet, but i seem to set 3 to 4 pins then the last pin will jam. I think I may be getting false sets from spooled pins.

Does anyone know the inner workings of this simple padlock? Also can someone point me in the right direction for info on warded locks, did a search but theres ton's of results, warded 101 please.

Here is a good post on warded locks. There is tons of information on spool pins around the site for your 575. Just lighten the tension and pratice practice practice. 3 O's. Then you can be a big TOOOL haha.

Thanks for the link, but I don't have access to that forum yet. I figured it out about the same time you said it, lighten up the tension. I am hardly proficient at it yet, but I have picked it several times and am still trying to figure out exactly what is going on inside. So are you confirming that the lock does have spools? Thanks again for the help and if you have any links I can access about this topic that would be great.

Scott....help out a poor noob LOL
