I was at home depot last night and asked the same question to another clerk.
I think he was the hardware manager.
He told me that old "bumpable" bottom pins were tapered at one end allowing them to sit in the "v" cuts made in keys. He then showed me a new "unbumpable" bottom pin. This was flat at one end which is normally tapered which apparently prevented bumping in some way. This new pin looked just like a top pin.
I asked him to make a bumpkey and demonstrate, he then said that he's not allowed to make such keys not even for demonstration purposes...lol
