Shaft doesn't fight the tension wrench at all, problem...

Postby Eab » 9 Jan 2007 1:22

I have an old Master #3 padlock, problem is I can't even begin to pick it. I apply light tension to the thing the shaft tuns like 2 degrees pretty easily, then it stops (presumably the pins are flush with the sides).

Problem is, if I remove the tension wrench the lock stays slightly off center. I can try to rake it but I clearly have applied too much tension to the thing and after just one rake all the pins get stuck up. Then I try to manually re-center the cylinder a really tiny amount and I hear all the pins fall back down.

See the problem? Any ideas?

i too have found, that the no. 3 can be difficult to tension at times. personally, light tension and then very stiff tension when it opens. it sounds obvious, but there have been more than one time when i have opened it and didnt realize it because it requires such stiff tension to rotate the plug once picked.

im not really sure what kind of advice to give ya, but keep at it. know that i dont think there are any security pins in it.
