tubular lock without inner notch

Postby pmanchego » 9 Jan 2007 21:02

A while ago I bought a southord 7 pin tubular lock pick which works really good. Except that it took me a while to find a shop that would sell a lock I could use. Apparently all the cheap locks sold nowadays come without the notch on the inner cylinder, and the lock pick won't fit. So I try picking my lock (without the notch, see img) Image
with a tension wrench and a pick, to my surprise as soon as I started turning the cylinder, the first pin shot out through the notch of the outer cylinder. How can I prevent this? Is there any tool to pick this sort of locks, a faster way?
Thanks

some tubular picks you can remove the pin that sits in the notch, if you can do it with your one then you can use it, otherwise you will have to be consious of it happening again when using normal picks, when turning it use the pick to hold the pin in so it does not spring out

Thanks,
No, I can't remove the inner pin on my pick.
I was thinking of making my own pick with an extractable outer pin (to prevent it getting stuck once it is turned), but from what I understand in your post, that isn't necessary.
Would a round pick with just the 7 picks work (without inner or outer pin)?

try the bic

try bic ing it. the soft plastic on certain ballpoint pen barrels will deform into a key with the right pressures. When there is no notch on the stem of the lock, the lock turns when the key presses on the pins that have been set to shear. this should be ok to bic.

Thanks for the advise.

Actually I did menage to remove the inner pin of the pick, with some 3-1 and some force. It works great on my practice lock (without the notch). I still have to try the bic-ing it. I had a bad experiance with a pen and my previous lock (pins shooting out) :) And I want to belife that this lock is better, and therefor not bic-able. But I'll let you know.
