Honestly, I would say better pin tumbler locks.

What have you been opening so far? Brands, number of pins, etc. If you're just looking for something else all together, try dimple locks, as they operate in the same way, but are very very different to pick, and then lever locks, which are their whole own situation.

try something with a really restrictive keyway. It'll dramatically change your ability to pick the lock.

yeah. there's a LOT more out there. yales and master etc do not cover nearly half of the pin tumbler spectrum. of course, its always fun to expand to other things, but still, there is still a LOT to learn on the mostly regular pin tumblers.

and remember: locks will always vary, so a master 6 pin all security pins may be fairly easy, but a 5 pin schlage with only 1 security pin might give you trouble simply because its different branding. so make sure to mix up and check into many different brands and types and pinning.

also, are you picking padlocks or deadbolts or KIK's or what? or a mix of them all? because a 6 pin padlock is VERY different than a 6 pin deadbolt, which is also different than a 6 pin KIK.

just some things to keep in mind.

Once you get to where you can pick all of your locks, have some fun with it. Mount them sideways and try it or mount them upside down. It makes a world of difference.

Get yourself some 3 - 5 lever lever locks (no curtain) and pick them using wire or with a 2 in 1 pick

making picks

Postby raimundo » 13 Jan 2007 14:26

Like 1octops said, mount them in difficult positions, then if you have trouble picking them, design a pick for the situation and make it.
