Victor Safe - how does it work & am I missing parts

Postby bofg » 30 Apr 2004 18:49

Hello to all, I just joined. I just became the owner of an old Victor Safe, a locksmith friend of mine is going to help me try to restore it but I thought I might get the jump & try to figure out how the safe worked & if I am missing parts.

The safe has a hole drilled near the dial that at first I thought the safe might have been drilled at some point but now I wonder if I am missing a handle that was used to move the door pins after the combination was dialed in.

Also does the dial works different on this safe than others, right now it works like a bolt, it unscrews or tightens but doesn't work like any combination I have ever tried.

One last thing, is there anyway to figure the age of this. I am guessing 1880's but again it is a guess

I will try to post some photos as soon as I figure out how to do that.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

Didn't quite work, but the images can be viewed by copying and pasting the link (without [IMG] tags) into the address bar....

I don't really know anything about safes, but I can hazard a guess to the origin of the hole above the dial. This was probably made to view the wheel pack and open the safe, not for some sort of 'missing handle'.
