High torque lock

Postby transylman » 25 Jan 2007 13:27

I took up lockpicking recently and got through the first couple of padlocks I tried pretty easily. I then went on to buy a five dollar bike lock which I am finding extremely difficult to pick.

The problem is that it takes a lot of turning force to turn it with the key. There is some sort of lock-closing spring mechanism which combines with the poor quality of the lock to make setting the pins extremely difficult. Just to get one pin to bind I need to apply a lot of force. When I go on to the next binding pin I release the torque slightly but the first pin resets. I once got to three pins but that was after an hour. I think I am picking in the right order cause there is only one pin that binds initially.

Is there any sort of special tool or technique that can help me with these kind of locks.

Thanks

Sorry. It's just a basic unbranded 4 pin lock. It was cheap so I dont think it has any security features. Part of the problem is that the plug is a little loss and when I apply torque it shifts a little.

I have a Master ProSeries 6830 which also takes a lot of torque to open and I was thinking a solution would be a help in both cases. I haven't learned raking yet. Maybe that would help.

heavy tension

Heavy tension is usually a mistake, although there are locks that do seem the respond to it.
