Postby patfraser3 » 8 Jul 2007 15:49

Hi, I was wondering on how to change my american lock 3105 core. I wanted to take it out to see how it was made but i have no clue how. I have search the forums for hours now and havent found anything about core changing of american locks. Here are a couple of images i took with my webcam.

Look inside the hole where the shackle went.

See a screw? If so, you're well on your way to getting this apart.

It'll have a double ball mechanism and you should be careful about the innards of that popping out in the process of disassembly, as they can't be trouble to get back in right.

unfortunately i see no screw inside. Its just a hole with a dent in it thats all ill post a picture on the bottom. on the back of the lock it says WEN Series 3105 and there is 2 little holes. Would that have to do something about the core? Ill post a picture under. The only reason why i want to take it out is to see how its made since i have trouble picking it im just starting and i know this is a hard one for a beginner. If you have tips i would really appriciate also.

Thank you.

the 3100 padlock requires a control key to remove the core, yours must need one too.
the locks come without a core but from the key in your pic it looks like a 'best' even though it doesn't say so on the core.

Ahhhh!

Please forgive my ignorance. I didn't take the time to actually look at your photos. Yes, you have an SFIC lock. Your best bet is to pick it to the control sheer line. You SHOULD be able to find some excellent info on that around the forums.

Best and control are solid keywords for you.

I noticed something was diffrent right when i seen the picture..
It looks like an amarican 1105... but it looks like it uses a Best cylinder.. at least the head of the key looks like a best bow.
