what is the best lock for beginers to start with

most people recommend a deadbolt or rim cylinder that u can strip down. cheap is good at this point.

The best way to go is to buy any random deadbolt cylinder, and to follow digital_blue's beginner lockpicking excercises.

It should say deadbolt on the packaging aswell so it shouldn't be too hard to miss.

basically anything thats cheap and u would lock your house with should be ok

Just don't buy a padlock, because most of them aren't rekeyable. And what you want to be able to do with the lock is take all the pins out except for one, and gradually keep adding pins as your skills increase.

in digital blue's beginers guide to lockpicking, for the first exercise, he talked about a 5 pin cylinder lock without security pins. he also said that it doesnt matter what brand of lock you choose and that even a kwikset would do but most people would benefit using a harder lock such as a Schlage. The amount of pins makes no difference. if u can get a 7 pin then get it.

The brand does matter one hell of a lot. you want something cheap. if you start off on a DOM or a KABA you will give up before you get any where near being able to open it. And yes I know they both have security pins but its more about the tolerances.

Yes, but you dont really want something too cheap or else you will find that it is too easy you will get bored of it real quickly.
