Hello, my name is Particle and I am known around these parts as the worst lock picker to ever exist. I don't think I could pick a lock with even zero pins in it at this point. If I were in a room slowly filling with water over the course of fours hours and my only way not to drown was to pick a Master #3, a cheap no-brand wal-mart lock, an American Standard, or any other lock--I would most certainly drown.
In fact, the only success I've had in opening a lock without a key is with an assault rifle.
It doesn't seem to matter how much tension I'm using or what kind of pick I use. It doesn't matter if I pick or rake. It doesn't matter if I start at the back or front.
No matter what the challenge and regardless of the tools, I can not pick a lock despite having read countless tutorials, watched endless amounts of video guides, etc.
Any ideas?

espscialy if its not just the one lock, we all have our bad days/weeks/months/years lol, just keep on trying, and eventualy you will get there, the more practice the better you will get. Its a technique, you could even call it an Art, just like everyone can paint, everyone can pick locks, but only those with the technique, can do it well.

Start with the most basic of locks and practice, practice, practice. It's how we all got to where we are today. Well, except me, and I find that mostly it's just dumb luck

Never meddle in the affairs of a leopard, for you are crunchy and taste good with catsup.

Your attitude is your first problem. If you approach a challenge thinking you can't do it you won't. Read all you can on the site. Make sure you know what is going on inside a lock. Then practice picking while watching TV and relaxing.

Totally dude. take his advice, when you get fustrated, just stop. Then pick up again. One question, how long have you been picking?

I am certain you have the two problems that affect beginners,
1 Lighten up, your using too much tension, and lighten up mentally, don't frustrate yourself, just take the pick and lock and fiddle with it while watching a tv show that you really like, don't concentrate on the picking, just go through the motions,
2 Make sure your tensor is loose in the lock, it should fall right out when you turn the keyhole down, if it dosent, your tensor is grounded into the cylinder wall and this will erode a groove in the cylinder that should anyway be in the lock as an anti picking feature.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
