The control keys operate on a different shear line than the operating keys... but the basic theory is the same for each of them. You can have different cores with different operating and/or control keys -- you can even have control keys on a master-key system, so that different control keys will work on the same core.

Hello Baja.......What may really be helpful is if you can disassemble an IC to see it's inner workings. It is basicly a plug (which is one shear line for operator key and master key). Then the plug slides into a sleeve (which is the shear line for the control key). And the plug and sleeve slide into the shell. Now remember all the control key does is slightly turn the control sleeve to remove the core from the housing/knob/or lever.

The space between the plug and the control sheer line are always the same.....The only changes are in the combination of the pin sizes and depth of the key cut.

Also there are 3 different "pinning" systems for the S.F.I.C. A-2 (9 macs, 2 step progression), A-3 (6 macs) and A-4(6 macs, single step)

OK THXZ...i think, i understand all of that but not the end part of the last post...i guess what i really need is a web site to explain all the diffrent systems, i have bought a Best i core from icorelocks.com and i think when that gets here i will be able to understand. But still if anyone finds a good site to help me out i would really appreciate it. :)

in some cases, such as schlage sfic, the removal key operates on the same shear line as the standard key

Looks like that place has a decent price on their combinated cores. Their grade 2 lever locksts seem to be on par but they don't specify what brand.
Likely it is pinned with the A-2 (most common) size pins.

Difference between A-2 and A-4 is the depth of the key cuts (bitting) and length of pin size. And ofcourse the pin stack total........

This should help you out:

Make sure you look at all the pages for SFIC locks to get a better understanding.
