Disc padlock troubles...

Postby bja743 » 26 Nov 2007 15:22

Hello all...I have a disc padlock made by Chateau, it is a plus c 970 for anyone that understands that. Anyway its been giving me some trouble, it is a 4 pin tumbler, im pretty sure there are no security pins but the thing just wont crack. The most i have goten were 3 of the 4 pins but when ever i try to get that last 1 the others re-set...i dont know why.So if anyone has any tips for me or maybe a dyagram on how it works then that would be sweet :D TY and plz help me

Given that you say it has no security features maybe the final binding pin is short and when you attempt to set it each time you overlift it which then allows the other pins space to slip down.
The other posibility is that one of the pins which you presume set is actualy false set and by trying to set the final pin you are returning it to its origional position.
If you can see the key that will make this alot easier, if not then just make sure each pin is set before you move onto the next and keep try each pin at varying heights.
Oh and you have checked its a 4 pin padlock haven't you?

Yea i do have the key and yea that helped but still it just doesnt want to go...one more thing i am confused about would be that when i turn the plug with the tension tool and let go it will spring back into place, i cant figure out the exact tension for the thing :(

your having the same problem that i used to. the tension is a learned feel. u need to apply more tension then a regular padlock but not to much.

good luck!

Someone else had a question about this lock not too long ago. I tried to give him the best advice that I could. It's not the easiest of locks. It's not that it has any hightech gizmos in there, it just doesn't like to play.

Check this page out:

Some of the suggestions on that page might help you out a bit.

I have this same model, I believe. Mine has a plastic cover over the keyway, and I too have found this particularly difficult to pick. I was eventually able to do it by using very light tension and single pin picking instead of raking. I am pretty sure it has at least a few security pins if not all 4.

I've had the cylinders out of these and they do have security pins. It's a tough keyway to get a good grip with a tension wrench. I use a small allen wrench for a tension wrench and a very thin Rytan half diamond pick. These can be patience testers, but a perfect time to practice a very light touch.
Don't believe everything you think.
