ok here's one, I applied for a locksmith apprentice position and the job description calls for learning the installation and operation of "panic bars"
where could a novice find information and diagrams of such ?

Check out the Corbin Russwin product's site.
They have all th info that you may need. I love the exit device's part's breakdown page's.

They're really straight forward. It's more important to drill the in the correct spots so it lays flush, flat, and level rather than the mechanics behind it.

If anything, I think as stated before, get any installation manual. Once you see how one is installed you basically know how MOST of the rest are installed, give or take a few variables (such as size, etc.).
