You are correct about the question of multigeneration depth keys and inaccurate key machines. They can cause faulty master key systems when new locks are added that are still pinned to factory accurate depths.

I have a few tools I purchased to begin the project...

I disassembled one of the existing locks at the facility, they have four master pins, one in each stack except for the first. One thing I noticed was the top pins were all the same length. I'm assuming this meant that they were slapped together in a rush with no thought of the future, or how smooth the lock functions.
