Brink High Security Brass Lock

I have been working on a Brinks high secutiry brass lock what I got a Wal-Mart for aout $6. This one uses spool pins and I'm pretty good at getting it to false set, I'm pretty sure the spool is pin 4, when I go to SPP it i let off on the tension a little but then it goes up too far and I have to start over again...I have picked it one time using this method but I'm still trying for a second.....any suggestions on working that spool pin to the shear line?

Once you've hit the false set and you're working on pushing the spools up the rest of the way, try to let the spools do all the work of letting off tension. Don't consciously let off of tension yourself, but as you're pushing up on a spool pin it should start pushing back against your tension automatically, and you let it, very slowly. Don't use a lot of upward force on the pin either, or once it hits that proper balance in tension it will shoot right past the shear line and overset the pin.

Thanks, I'm still trying to find that tension balance for the spools. It seems like just getting it to false set has a lot to do with tension also.

yea the suggested method with security pins is to use a light tension so the pin never catches to begin with. i have a master 140 that i can false set alot but sometimes i cant get it to give me counter-tension, im not sure why. im still working on successfully picking it consistently. i also have a brinks 5 pin brass
