Core Removal Keys

How do "core removal" keys work? do they have lets say 8 pin keys in a 7pin lock to hit the final pin that releases the core?

1) Use the search button!

2) There are many different variations, but the most popular is probably BEST SFICs which are covered well by Matt Blaze of crypto.com: http://www.crypto.com/photos/misc/sfic/

It varies with types of locks.

Kwiksets removable cores come with three keys, two ordinary and one with a notch cut in the bottom of the blade. This key removes the core.

Schlage uses a small extra pin at the end of the cylinder, and the key that operates this pin uses the same bitting as the operating key.

BEST has two separate sheer lines, operating and control. I'm not going in-depth as there is information readily available.

Thats what I can come up with off the top of my head for you.

Schlage LFIC is removed by using a special blank with 7th cut, then the first six cuts are basically any key that will operate the lock which you're trying to remove. If the control key is lost, you could simply have your change key copied to a control key.

SFIC type is removed using a key cut to control bittings. The basic rule here is that you're not supposed to lose the control key, or there is going to be some drilling to do, unless you're a good picker.

Kwikcrap... I don't know.

Guys, if you look at this member's post history, it's blatantly obvious (to me at least) that he is asking these questions about SFIC systems in order to use the knowledge against his university's master-keyed system. LP101 members have already warned him in the past not to tamper with locks that he doesn't own, but it seems evident from his subsequent posts that he's intent on doing so anyway.

I really don't mean to be rude or confrontational in posting this, but it really irks me when I see what appears to be someone knowingly violating the LP101 rules / ethos, especially after having been previously warned by members not to mess around with locks he doesn't own. In my view, it's a liability for this great site to encourage this behavior, even if it's done unwittingly or passively. Please don't help to contribute to this if you can.

corbin, yale, sargent and medeco also have LFIC options. Corbin uses a system in which the control lug is operated in chambers 2 through 5. Sargent uses only chambers 3 and 4. Yale and medeco I have not worked on yet. I'd be interested in any information people have about these locks. Corbin and sargent use easier pinning formulas than best in my experience, although both systems are extremely finnicky. Any mistakes in your math will cause the lock not to operate.
