Pelilock 4 digit combo locks

Postby playinem121 » 22 Oct 2008 19:57

I have two pelilock 4 digit combination locks. They are manufactured by the company that makes Pelican cases. My late father put them on a case and noone can find where or if he wrote the combos down. I have been unable to shim them. Being somewhat of a hobbyist and in no hurry to open the case I have thus far avoided going to the bolt cutters. Is there a way to defeat this type of lock?

Any chance it has the TSA keyhole ?

Short of that, try each digit on a wheel one at a time, and see if you can feel any difference in the amount the shackle moves when you pull on it.

No keyhole. And no noticeable play in the shackle when moving dials. This is apparently a really high security lock...the cases are also (waterproof, impact resistant, etc.).

4 digets, 1,000 combinations, shouldn't be that hard to test all of them..

That's how I opened my laptop bag lock.

Oh, and it's 10000 combinations.

2 seconds per try, it'll take less than 6 hours, just watch some TV.

Rather than look for play in the shackle, feel for slight changes in the resistance to rotating each combination wheel while you lightly pull up on the shackle. You will feel when each wheel 'sets'. Don't expect them to set in stacked order. Similar to a pin tumbler lock, the tolerance gap varies for each wheel. This style lock can be opened in this manner in a minute or two.
It's a good day when I learn something new.

Thanks nothumbs...it took me more than a minute or two (but I am all thumbs). Anyway I got them (both ended up being the same combo) in about half an hour. I appreciate your help.
