5 pinned tubular locks?

Postby Red » 17 Jun 2008 9:55

Hi all!
We've got a customer in the UK seeking a 5 pinned tubular pick for a Kensington lock. They use them to secure laptops in the workplace. We do not carry 5 pinned tubular picks...in fact I am totally unfamiliar with them. Are there any members that know of a resource that can assist our
customer? It doesn't matter where the firm is located. I just want to pass the info along.

Thanks!

I have never heard of a 5 pin tubular pick, and i have never seen a 5 pin tubular lock. I searched Kensington's website and they don't have a tubular lock of any kind listed either, maybe I missed it.

Those 5 pinned tubulars are made in China and are very cheap. They are sold directly to laptop manufacturers. They are very small in diameter and keyblanks are often unobtainable.

Easy to pick but hard to source replacements.

5 pinned tubular pick

Thank you both for your reply. I think I'll send over this link to the customer. It seems that these locks aren't very secure and he probably shouldn't be using them to secure laptops anyway.
freakparade3 - it is entirely possible that his other locks are Kensington and he made the assumption that these are as well given that your search results yielded nothing on the Kensington site.
Your input is much appreciated.

I read this reply with interest, A friend at work said to try out my new southord tubular picks on his bike lock, Halfords variety, it too had 5 pins in it so I could not use the pick, Is there just a central core spinner the can be made or purchased so that the pins can be picked manually?.

Likewise, I can affirm that the Kensington notebook/laptop lock I have is a seven-pin lock with two of the pins permanently recessed, and five slots on the key. The diameter of the lock is too small for the SouthOrd 7-pin pick. :(

Perhaps a reduction fitting needs to be machined so that the 7 pin unit can drive a 5 pin adapter whilst the other 2 pins are not used in the process. Maybe the 2 unused pick tips can be used to keep the reduction fitting indexed and secured in place.

I have a 5 pin tubular pick that is about the same diameter as a 7 pin lock, the feelers are evenly spaced around the pick. I don't think I have ever used this pick and I believe it was a freebie that came with my epg
