If you do use graphite or something similar to lubricate your locks, either do it outside or put something over the carpet to catch all the errant powder. Graphite is impossible to get out of carpet.

Not quite I think, have you tried a Vacuum Cleaner and a Bucket of Water with Omo Soap Powder?

You shouldn't lubricate your locks in your mothers living room with her old Chinese carpet!
