Raking

Postby Billy-Whizz » 6 Aug 2004 10:53

Hi!

Need your help yet again guys!...Looked on the FAQ's etc and I can't find anything about what speed/pressure used to rake pins. Is there any particular way to do this or is it just personal preference?!

Also just want to say thanks to anyone that's replied to any of my posts so far...it's really helped me and you'll be pleased to know that I can now open a variety of different locks ranging from the very bad quality padlock to the wafer lock and 6 pin tumblers with security pins in under 30 seconds (excluding the 6 security pin one!) I feel i'm getting on really well (Must be the small fingers!) and I would advise anyone who's starting out to practice, practice practice and then practice some more....you will reap the benefits!!!

I would say that raking is a matter of personal preferance. Though sometimes certain pressure speed is neccessary. For example: when picking a lock with security pins, i doubt you would want to put max pressure with very fast speed, you would want to go light pressure with slow speed (or at least thats how i always do it).. :D

It does depend of the lock you're playing with.

Yale's for example I find using the half diamond and just raking from back to front works best for me. Some other locks this won't work and the normal rake and raking motion do the job.

It really is trial and error for each lock. I was going to say each brand but even same brands have differences.

You would probably do well to start off with a slow motion and see how many pins set. If none set try increasing the raking motion. If you're still having problems and you think you have security pins causing problems then search this forum for "reverse raking" and see how you do then.

Nothing is ever the same :)
